Impactful Experience from Before College

An experience from before college that stands out to me was when I participated in the 30 hour famine at my high school. For this experience, I had to essentially starve myself for 30 hours in order to raise money for starvation in our country. Before I participated in this experience, I remember thinking that 30 hours was nothing and that it might be fun. However, I was very wrong. After the 12 hour mark, I started to feel very hungry and lethargic. I remember wanting to give up and just start eating secretly. However, I ignored my inner thoughts, and I just kept pushing through the 30 hours. The 30 hour famine was one of the most grueling events that I have even partaken in. However, the 30 hour famine taught me a lot. It taught me the value of food. I never was raised in a household where I was not provided with at least three meals a day. Furthermore, it was a very eye-opening experience for me because I could not imagine that there are people in my community who live without food for hours on end. This experience also taught me how to push through with something, even if it is challenging. I wanted to give up so bad; however, I knew that I had to push through in order to truly understand the purpose behind the event.
