Year-In Review

Freshman Year

Sophomore Year

Junior Year

What specific experiences (honors or otherwise) in the past year have had the most impact on your personal, academic, or professional goals and life trajectory? Which future experiences will further encourage this growth? Please articulate specific academic and/or professional goals for the next year.

My junior year has been my absolute favorite year of college so far. I personally felt that all the hard work that I put into my goals throughout my undergraduate experience was starting to pay off and become even more recognized. During this past year, I have been involved in numerous experiences that have helped me to accomplish my goals and take myself out of my comfort zone. In this year’s year-in-review, I will be delving into these specific experiences and any future experiences that I believe will encourage my growth.

Furthermore, one experience that I have had in the past year that has impacted my goals was my study abroad experience to Tanzania for my community health clinical rotation. During my freshman year of college, I created a goal for myself to go on at least two study abroad experiences before I graduate. This experience taught me how to be more resourceful as a future registered nurse, and it allowed me to have further experience with interacting with individuals who share different cultural identities from my own. To help achieve my goal for studying abroad, I am planning on applying to a global health nursing study abroad program in Japan for the spring semester. I think that this experience will help to strengthen my global health knowledge and cultural humility skills while also satisfying my goal that I made for myself.

Moreover, another experience that I have had in the past year that has impacted my goals was my experience as a Head Resident Advisor in my community. This role not only earned me more money, but it also taught me a lot about my leadership style and that I could see myself going into a management position later on in my career. Before I started college, I knew that I wanted to hold a leadership position in some capacity. I am going to be a Head Resident Advisor for my community next year as well. One of my goals for the next year is to continue to grow even more confident with my leadership skills and to set more boundaries with my staff. I think that by continuing to be an HRA for the next year will allow me to accomplish this goal that I have created for myself.

Finally, the last experience that I have had in the past year that has impacted my goals was me working in the Medical ICU as a PCA. I do believe that my dedication and hard work in this position allowed me to get accepted for a position in the MICU as a nursing co-op student. Over the next year, my goal is to continue strengthening my nursing knowledge and obtain hands-on experience with my career. I definitely think that the nursing co-op position will allow me to accomplish this goal and allow me to be as prepared as possible for when I become a new graduate registered nurse.
